Alpensia Resort Master Plan

Hornberger + Worstell master planned the reconceptualization, mixed-use expansion, and integrated design of the all-seasons resort village to support South Korea’s bid to host the 2018 Winter Olympic Games.

Alpensia Resort is the epicenter of regional tourism in PyeongChang and was the primary outdoors sporting venue for the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games.  In addition to winter sports facilities, the Master Plan provided an integrated mix of supporting uses, including 1,000 Residential Units in a variety of communal types and settings; Hospitality; Retail, Dining and Entertainment; Farmer’s Market and Arts & Crafts Center; Fairytale Town and Kids Care Center; Community Center; Wellness Center; Training Academy and Employee Dormitory.

The Master Plan brings order and identity to earlier disparate phases that developed incrementally and organically over time.  New buildings and spaces engage existing buildings and are organized to facilitate common arrival and strong connections between building groupings, and to establish uninterrupted activity along primary pedestrian ways.
