Alpensia Resort Phase 2 Master Plan
Pyeong Chang, Korea

Hornberger + Worstell designed a master plan for an all-season resort village located in Pyeong Chang, South Korea.  The 150 acre Alpensia Resort Village is intended to be the epicenter of regional tourism and will compete as a “candidate city” for future Winter Olympic Games.  The development includes 1,000 residential units, totaling 120,000 square meters of residential area, 20,000 square meters of commercial space, and 2,800 parking spaces, for a total building area of 190,000 square meters, plus below grade parking.

Hornberger + Worstell’s Phase 2 plan strengthens the appearance of an area that developed incrementally and organically over time.  The buildings master planned in Phase 2 support existing Phase 1 buildings and are organized to facilitate common arrival and strong connections between buildings.  “Bridge” buildings span the road and watercourse to establish strong linkages between different sites and to establish uninterrupted activity along primary pedestrian pathways.
